CAD modeling workshop in elementary school of Armenia

Armenia is a country with a history of 6000 years, with a considerable heritage in science, engineering, art and philosophy. During all these years, Armenians have built exceptional masterpieces and are known as a ”builder nation”. The Armenian engineering mind was fully expressed in their architecture, workshop, especially churches, monuments, and other historical buildings that you can find in many countries worldwide. These buildings survived thanks to the unique engineering solutions of their designers.

Since the 20th century, Armenia has had strong engineering schools and traditions in machine building engineering, computer sciences and other engineering industries.

Several Armenian scientists and inventors are famous worldwide, and had an impact on the Armenian engineering environment. Nowadays, Armenia is one of the countries with the world’s most prominent and fastest-growing IT industries. But, in parallel, Armenia needs specialists in other engineering fields, especially electronics and mechanical engineering.

It is no coincidence that the SOLIDWORKS user group (SWUG) is very active in Armenia. One of the main missions of Armenia SWUG, is to return traditions in mechanical engineering, like machine building and design engineering.

In Armenia, Chess is taught in schools from first grade. Armenia has a strong STEM education program in elementary schools. And they use SOLIDWORKS Apps for Kids to teach their pupils engineering.

Armenia SWUG active member Vahag inspired the initiative to teach kids from 7-8 years old. Vahag was himself 7 when he began using Apps for Kids. The experience was very successful, as Vahag could figure out many features independently with little help. He then presented to other older students aged 10-14, in Lori region, Armenia, COAF Smart Center. The amazing positive reaction of the Smart Center students launched the idea to use SOLIDWORKS Apps for Kids in public schools in Armenia.

In 2022, Armenia SWUG active members Arevik Tutkhalyan and Vahag showed SOLIDWORKS Apps for Kids in Vahag’s class. After this presentation, all of Vahag’s classmates wanted to try to create 3D models in the application.

This year, Arevik Tutkhalyan organized a round table discussion with MSKH education complex dean Ashot Bleyan and all boarding members about implementing SOLIDWORKS Apps for Kids in their institution. All the members showed considerable interest in this solution and decided that all students in 3rd and 4th grades would use SOLIDWORKS Apps for Kids.

Small but Strong community

Armenia SWUG then organized a 5-day meeting/workshop for the students. Arevik Tutkhalyan presented to the students the application, the tools, and features, with active community members Armenia SWUG leader David Yurmuzyan, SOLIDWORKS Champions Davit Ayvazyan and Levon Avetisyan, active members Yeranuhi Arsenyan and Vahag. They ran the workshop and helped all the kids to register. Vahag helped them in answering their questions. As a result, all children loved the app, and they are now creating the 3D models themselves.

This workshop project was so popular that other schools also wanted to organize SOLIDWORKS Apps for Kids workshops for their students.

“Thank you” Armenia SWUG and their active members for raising kids’ interest in STEM with the help of SOLIDWORKS Apps for Kids!
