In the Spotlight

Learning about different shapes and spaces helps children gain spatial intelligence. Are you looking for interesting ways for your kids to learn 3D? Perhaps you wish to direct your little one’s growing creative curiosity towards designing.

Well, that’s what AFK is for!

The SOLIDWORKS Apps for Kids lets your children explore their creativity through Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) programs.

Is your child into 3D video games? Why not let them dive into the creative process behind this universe, and maybe spark a vocation!

SOLIDWORKS Apps for Kids lets your kids learn first-hand the science behind designing through multiple built-in tools. They can unravel their creative side by creating 3D objects, editing, styling, and printing for a real-time experience.

Inspiration and Challenges

Need to keep kids busy and entertained during summer? Good news! The SOLIDWORKS Apps for Kids #3Dsummer Challenge has started and will last over the summer!

What about asking them to design their favorite summer toy? They can be inspired by this video for instance.

Do you want to see your kids’ designs on the SOLIDWORKS Education Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram? Share their Apps for Kids creation on social media, mentioning #3DSummer AND #swa4k, and we might feature them on our channels!

Tips and Tricks

Here is a quick tip for fixing some common 3D Print issues.

When you open a Project in print it you may find that the model does not line up exactly with the print bed. No matter what 3D Printer you choose to use, this means that you will need to fix the STL before you can successfully print.

Common issue 1: The model is at an incorrect orientation. Check out this short video to learn how to use Shape It to orient your model to the correct location. Remember that any changes in Shape It automatically update when you go back to Print It.

Common issue 2: One of the model has parts of it that are not in line with the print bed. Check out this short video to learn how to use Shape It to select the issue areas and move to fix. Ideally you are looking to ensure that all bottom faces of the models are in line. Remember (again) that any changes in Shape It automatically update when you go back to Print It
